Use case · Interviews

For people who interview for a living.

Journalists vetting sources. Qualitative researchers running 30-subject studies. Hiring managers running structured interview loops. Bonfiyah captures every conversation, separates speakers, surfaces contradictions across interviews with the same subject, and keeps the audio on your device.

For journalists

Source vetting, fact-checking, and the long-tail of "wait, didn't they tell me something different in the first interview?" are exactly what Truth Layer is built for. Across multiple recorded interviews with the same source, Bonfiyah flags inconsistencies — places where the source's account has shifted, dates have changed, or a name has been added or omitted. The flag is informational, not accusatory; you bring the judgment.

For published-quote accuracy, Bonfiyah's per-quote audio export lets you embed the actual audio of a quoted statement alongside the text in your reporting workflow. This is becoming a quiet standard in long-form investigative journalism — it's harder to argue you misquoted someone when the audio is right there.

Source protection: every recording is on-device by default. The audio file does not leave your iPhone unless you explicitly turn on iCloud sync. This is not the same as journalist-shield-law protection (consult counsel), but it removes a vendor from the chain of custody.

For qualitative researchers

Running a 30-subject study used to mean 30 transcription tasks at $1.50/minute and a thematic analysis pass that took weeks. With Bonfiyah, you record on your iPhone, transcripts generate during travel time between interviews, and Pro AI's Speaker Themes pulls per-subject patterns + Story Mode pulls per-subject narrative structure.

For grounded-theory work, the cross-recording search lets you find every interview where a specific construct appeared without re-listening to anything. The export-all-transcripts flow gives you clean text files for import into NVivo, ATLAS.ti, or whichever CAQDAS tool you use for the formal analysis.

IRB / consent: Bonfiyah's consent module captures the subject's verbal opt-in, attributed and timestamped, satisfying the IRB documentation requirement at most institutions. Bring your IRB-approved consent script and use it as the recorded prompt.

For hiring teams

Structured interviews work better when the interviewers can compare notes from a shared record rather than from individually-imperfect memories. Bonfiyah captures the interview, transcribes it, and exports a speaker-separated transcript that the panel can annotate independently before debrief.

For high-volume hiring, People Memory builds a per-candidate profile across the interview loop — which interviewer covered which competency, what the candidate emphasized vs. avoided, where the answers strengthened or weakened across the day. Useful for the debrief, useful for the hire/no-hire decision, useful for the post-mortem when a hire works out (or doesn't).

Important consent note: candidates must be told they're being recorded, and their verbal consent should be captured at the start. In two-party-consent jurisdictions, this is the law; in every jurisdiction, it's basic respect. Bonfiyah's consent module handles the legal layer; your interviewer training handles the respect layer.

Common interview-pro questions

Does Bonfiyah work over the phone or only in person?

Both. For phone interviews, route the call through speakerphone and let Bonfiyah pick up both sides — or, on the iPhone with Continuity Calls, use the Mac as the call source and Bonfiyah on the iPhone alongside. Quality is best with a small Bluetooth lavalier on the interviewer.

What about Zoom interviews?

Bonfiyah doesn't currently send a meeting bot to virtual calls — it's an in-person-first product. For Zoom, we recommend recording the call locally via Zoom's built-in recording and importing the audio into Bonfiyah for transcription + AI processing.

Can I anonymize a transcript before sharing?

Yes — Pro's redaction view lets you replace speaker names with codes (P01, P02…), remove specific phrases, and export a sanitized PDF or text file. The original transcript stays intact for your records.

Does Bonfiyah support languages other than English?

Yes — transcription is via Whisper and supports 100+ languages. Pro AI features (summaries, action-item extraction, etc.) currently work best in English; broader-language Pro AI ships in v1.4.
